A late plane out of Luang  Prabang, delays at immigration,  the Kings funeral on. We only just made it from the airport to the bus depot with maybe 2 minutes to spare.

Then driven through the night trying to sleep, good recliner and all that , but still. At 00:30 we stopped at the roadside somewhere for a refreshment break, and there I feel I have eaten the riskiest food so far! But so far so good.

Got into Runong at about 6am, tuktuk to the bank and the pier then speedboat out to the island.

Staying in a bungalow by the beach, my bungalow is in the pic below,  it has a green towel hanging over the decks rail.

Someone has to make all the shrines that are about the place I guess.

Temples.

This is a model of the old town part of Chiang Mai.

This was the start of a big market area.

The Central Festival Mall in Chiang Mai. 5 floors of all sorts of things.

Heading off to Laos tomorrow to take a boat down to Luang Prabang on Wednesday. A 2 day trip off grid on the Mekong.

Using the machinery below the guy was making fresh coconut milk.

And bagging it up.

Almost met my match with spicy fish ball and egg soup at lunch time today, luckily I had a mango/passion fruit smoothie to help me along.

The top 3 images are Martins place, then the alley it is on then the street that runs off.

The bottom one a wall decoration at one of the temples.

The smokes is from dry ice  infused cereal. It was a market selling heaps of really tempting food.

Associated with a big mall, with a metal detector to pass through to get in, I and everyone else set it off but got waved through.

And on the day they stopped alcohol sales for 2 days to mourn the king, I discover they have a selection of tempting looking Weizen Beer.

Wandered about a bit, bought crucial part of battery charging infrastructure, had a latte at Starbucks, really learned an appreciation of air conditioning.

Was struck by the number and ornateness of palaces and temples, and how many places had guards, armed or not.

 

Was billed as Thai  breakfast, was like beans and eggs, but not beans, sausage, tomato spicy sauce. Yum!

Up early and even then not cool.
