Memory and joining the dots.

This last week I saw a story that Fleur Sullivan was closing her restaurant in Moeraki. It is worth checking out the film here

She is a long time fixture of the restaurant business, and in the early ’80s owned Olivers in Clyde.

I worked there in the kitchen for a while, washing dishes and getting exposed to restaurants.

I recall meeting her son, Martin Sullivan who was a Fine Art student. Anyway seeing the story about Moeraki, inspired me to google, her then him.

I can’t see what he is up to now, but I can see something he exhibited in Wellington in 1986 https://citygallery.org.nz/exhibitions/martin-sullivan-installation-series/

Now I can see why I would have the photos below among the pictures from my films I have scanned.

That must have been at the Auckland Art Gallery I think.

The photos aren’t really clear showing the sheep skeleton and bird skeleton there.

Either influenced by that, or obviously interested in that about the same time I made the thing below.

I recall driving around with Jhadde somewhere out west and getting the Manuka sticks.

I do like the cows heads/skulls, they are very iconic, when I was in India, I was quite tempted to buy one of these.

For a long time I was wondering about the top set of photos and why I had taken them etc.

Not sure what became of Martin Sullivan NZ artist, he seems to have escaped the clutches of Google at least.
